ERT 256/2 THEORY OF STRUCTURES

Course Synopsis:

This course covers functions of structures, design loads, reactions and forces systems, analysis of statically determinate structures including beams, trusses, frames and arches; energy methods of determining deflections of structures, influence lines and criteria for moving loads, analysis of statically indeterminate structures using stiffness method for beams, trusses and frames. Also introduces finite element analysis for analysis of structures.

Course Outcomes:

Ability to analyze engineering problems relate to statically indeterminate elastic structural members and to determine external loads, deformation, and internal forces.
Ability to analyze structures with moving loads using basic knowledge of mathematics, sciences and engineering.
Ability to evaluate and solve the problems relate tostructural member deflections under given loading.
Ability to evaluate and formulate the solution for complex engineering problems relate tothe force and stiffness method for truss, beam, and frame analysis.
