ERT 251/3 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS

Course Synopsis:

This course covers the fundamental and behaviour of solid objects subject to mechanical forces. The coursesdeals with the relations between the external forces applied to elasticbodies and the resulting deformations and stresses. The topics will cover stress-strain, strain energy, shear forces, bending stress, deflection, torsion and material testing.

Course Outcomes:

Ability to evaluate the mechanical properties of materials, stress and strain, and failure analysis.
Ability to evaluate the shear force, stress, bending moment and deflection of beam.
Ability to assess fatigue, torsion of shaft, plastic bending and torsion of materials.
